TRAINING & WORKSHOPS: LEAN THINKING
Design for Manufacture and Assembly
/ Integrated Product-Process Development Workshop (2
days)
Description:
This workshop introduces participants to widely used
and proven improvement techniques for improving product
designs. The Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
portion covers fundamental techniques for improving
the marriage between product designs and the manufacturing
processes which produce them. The Integrated Product-Process
Development (IPPD) covers techniques for improving the
integration of the product development process, both
internally among development groups, as well as with
the various constituents and functions who are stakeholders
in the development process.
| Outline: |
- Design for Manufacture
and Assembly (DFMA) concepts
- Manufacturing process
observation and mapping
- Examples of DFMA
tools and techniques
- Mapping the development
process
- Organizational and
process team design
- Integrative Mechanisms
|
Target Audience and Outcomes:
This workshop is targeted toward engineering teams and
engineering process managers. It is also appropriate
for people whose functions are closely associated with
engineering and who would be included in any cross-functional
team deploying DFMA/IPPD techniques.
Notes:
Participants receive a three-ring binder with all presentation
slides. Two hands-on exercises and two videotapes are
included as part of this workshop. While this workshop
can be used in a stand-alone mode, it is best conducted
as kickoff training to a facilitated hands-on implementation.
While these two topics are best deployed together, they
can also be presented as two separate workshops.
